After breakfast, we will drive to Aligarh. Upon arriving in Aligarh, we’ll embark on a captivating heritage walk through the grand campus of Aligarh Muslim University. This walk promises a fascinating glimpse into the rich tapestry of Indo-Islamic cultural heritage.

The indomitable spirit of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a distinguished scholar and social reformer of the nineteenth century, has left an enduring legacy at the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College (MAO), which was founded in 1875. MAO stands as a guiding light in education and a devoted custodian of Indo-Islamic cultural heritage. Inspired by the esteemed traditions and standards of institutions like Oxford and Cambridge, it evolved into the grand institution known today as the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in the early twentieth century, embodying the essence of Indo-Islamic cultural preservation and academic excellence. The campus showcases a remarkable architectural fusion of Indo-Islamic and Indo-British influences, featuring over 60 heritage buildings that invite you on a captivating journey through India’s history and culture. AMU stands as a testament to Sir Syed’s visionary ideals—a sanctuary of knowledge, culture, and boundless inspiration.

Let’s embark on a heritage walk through the captivating historical campus of Aligarh Muslim University, home to a plethora of distinctive heritage buildings and structures. Its construction commenced in 1879, and the Mosque serves as a near replica of the elegant Jama Masjid in Shahjahanabad, Delhi, with the only notable distinction being in its scale and grandeur. The unique Strachey Hall was one of the initial buildings to grace the campus, proudly bearing the name of British Indian Civil Servant Sir John Strachey. Additionally, the Victoria Gate, once the primary entrance to the College, was aptly named in honor of Queen Victoria in 1914. Within the campus, you’ll also find an array of exceptional museums and galleries. These spaces house an extensive collection of archaeological artifacts, rare sculptures, paintings, intricately carved stone pieces, and historical pillars, providing a fascinating glimpse into the rich Indo-Islamic heritage of this remarkable institution.
